Food Lover's Umbria
One trip per month from February through November (except August). Contact us for exact dates.
Savor the glorious cuisine and food products of Umbria. You will be led by Marcello and Raffaella, the husband and wife team, who are our Italian affiliates. As natives, they will lovingly shepherd you through cooking classes, wonderful meals and visits to producers of local specialties.
Day 1
Arrive in the afternoon at Foligno railway station. Transfer to our 3-star hotel in medieval hill town of Trevi, the capital of olive oil production in Italy.
Day 2
Visit an olive oil mill for a tasting and tour.
Visit the fascinating Museum of the Civilization of Olives with fun, interactive activities.
Tour Spoleto then enjoy a cooking class with a fine Spoleto chef in a beautiful monastery kitchen.
Day 3
Drive into the mountains to visit a farm and watch dogs hunt for truffles (seasonal).
Lunch at the farm.
Visit the famous Lungarotti wine cellars in Torgiano for a wine tasting.
Day 4
Visit Assisi and St. Francis Basilica. After a morning in Assisi, we visit Perugia and one of its famous candy factories.
Cooking lesson on truffle and mushroom specialties in the beautiful Castello di Poreta restaurant.
Day 5
Norcia is a city famous for a wide variety of food products especially salamis. We'll tour a "salamificio" to see how meats are cured.
Then to lunch for a tasting of the famous Norcia salami. We'll also visit a beekeeper and honey producer.
Cooking lesson at a farmhouse on local grains.
Day 6
Drive to Montefalco to visit Arnaldo Caprai winery to taste the famous Sagrantino wine, considered one of the best red wines in Italy.
Cooking lesson in Bevagna on chocolate and desserts.
In the afternoon, tour Bevagna with a professor of art history. Bevagna is an unforgettable small medieval town considered to be one of the best small towns in Italy.
Gala farewell dinner at a castle restaurant in the countryside near Assisi.
Day 7
Depart for home.
Cost
$3,900 (USD) includes hotel for six nights (single occupancy), all meals and activities outlined in itinerary. Not included: airfare to and from Italy, transfers to and from the train, most wine and alcoholic beverages, personal expenses. |
